    85 250r prob!

I have a 85 250r with esr full pipe, k&n air filter,v force 3 reeds, and dyne jet kit, and it will not hit the power band! No matter wat! I just got it a few weeks ago, but could it be the jet kit? It bogs right wen it starts to hit, it goes through all gears fine

I think you answered your own question. Sounds lean to me.

Is it choking on itself or cutting out? How much smoke is coming out the back?

Yes it is, but once it does if I shift up it goes fine till it starts to hit the power band

Post some picture to see what it has first!

You'll need to tell us all details of the motor, compression test need
    To be done.

On my 86 keep in mind its got a different carb than yours but at 30 deg air temp I put on a full esr and have reeds too I went from a stock pipe and jetting 142 main and 42 pilot up to 154 main and a 50 pilot and raised the needle 1 notch richer. I runs good and didn't do a plug chop cuz I had no where to do it in town but it seemed ok. I run 91 octane and 32-1 klots and need a piston I got 145 psi. Not all gauges read the same either alot of times. I'm in WI so our elevation is the same.

When asking running questions here is a few things to consider.

What size and type of carb?
What is the pilot and main jet sizes in that carb and needle clip position?

If you are running a stock 85 carb, then IMO throw it at a stray animal that gets in your trash cans...Get a 86 carb, or even better yet a PWK 38.
    Have you tested the coil?
What spark plug are you running and at what gap?

130PSI compression? TOO LOW. Start there first..Make sure you have a good compression tester.
Here is where my long useless list of stuff nobody cares about should go...

Well it's stock and I got it from a kid tht put all the stuff on including jetting it... It is stock carb because it is a round slide, and I did have a bad tester,, it's at 155 psi... So wat should I check first? Snd I'm in central illionois

search the threads for free manuals and download one for plug gap. also sounds like jetting or coil if its not getting a good hot spark.
Also Mosh had good points as well
    2- 85 Tri-Z's black and Yellow
    2- 85 250SX's
    1- 85 200X
    3-ATC 70's
    2- 85 tri-zinger's who needs some parts

    Exclamation

If you look at the Honda service manual
It states 170psi minimum, your well below that.

Now keep in mind you can still run it as is, but you risk
The chance of ruining your bottom end If the piston let's go!

If it was my R I would rebuild the top end.

If you can I would up grade your carb to a Keihin PWK 38mm
    Carbuator...
