    xr200 cam Q

so im looking to get a xr cam for my 200x and ive read that the 84-85s came with a 4v head so that will definitely not work but ive seen 2 different cams for the 2v motors. some cams have the long "nose" on the cdi side of the cam, similar to the stock 200x cam, and others do not and have a flat end on the cdi side of the cam. can these cams be swapped or do they have different cdi set ups?

true, because from what i read on the forum, all xr200 cams fit except the 4v head. i looked at the rest of the parts on diagram from bike bandit and they all look the same so i dont know why the front of the cam would be different. wonder if someone else can chime in with more knowledge on the subject so we can inform forum members that is possible not all 2v xr200 cams swap in to a 200x atc.

so i got a brand new xr 200 cam. it fits inside the head and the cam gear bolt up and the look the same except the front is shorter but everything else fits up. i also took some measurements and feel free to correct me if im wrong
cam lift can be measured by the largest point on a cam minus the smallest point in inches then mult by 1.8 = lift
    the cam i pulled out of my 200x measured 1.28125"-1.03125"= .25" x 1.8 = .450" lift
    the xr 200 cam measured 1.250"- 1.03125= 0.21875 x 1.8= .39375" lift
i didnt measure duration of the cams but the mystery continues, im just going to sell the xr cam, its brand new and cam in a genuine honda parts box if anyone wants it. ill post pics tomorrow. im guessing that the previous owner might have already put a hi perf cam and didnt tell me.

Pcs, I'm kinda in the same boat as you. Got a couple cams, one supposedly stock 200x and one supposedly xr200 cam. Been tryin to find out how to determine which cam is which. I measured both cams according to your post above. Both cams measure 1.276" for the high side and 1.026" on the low side. Do the math and the both come out to .450". So both cams would be higher lift than a xr200 cam, right? I assume in my 200x engine right now I have a stock cam. Guess I'll pull that cam out and measure it the same way to see what it is.

a 200x cam with that much lift (.450) is the most radical, highest lift cam made for the 200x... really designed for all-out race motors only. .393 is also a high lift cam. You may may want to check your measurement method. the stock 200x cam is somewhere around .260-.280" lift. I guess it is possible that is the cam in your motor providing a previous owner did some work to it.

my first clue should have been this, i bough a complete Ti valve spring kit from R&D valve springs and measured the valve spring pressure at 75lbs, the stocks ones i pulled out had 98lbs... i got the atc from the original owners son and every other atc he has are built up, drag ports, pipes, extended swingers, so it wouldnt surprise me if he did some work to this one too.
i agree that i my measurement might not be 100% but the cam that is in the motor is larger than the xr cam and if i compare the xr cam specs i measured with web cams specs it has a bit more lift than their torque cam for all around power that can use stock valve train parts so that xr cam i have should be larger stock.

I believe that a cam with that much lift (.450) has to have the oil valley in the head beneath the camshaft milled out to clear the cam lobes

.450 lift is a hi-comp, race only grind which would require stiffer springs to eliminate valve float, a hi-comp (12:1) piston...Web only goes up to a .435 IN on their full race offering
