I bought a quad that had what I think was a 200es engine on it. They had taken the sub tranny off and the output shaft from the engine was splined correctly for a sprocket but no sprocket retainer. They had just welded it on and it threw the chain, busting the case. I think it would be fine if it has the right output shaft or was machined to properly hold the sprocket. Also, the engine was in an LT230 QuadSport chassis. There could have been alignment issues too, that caused or help the chain come off. The output shaft is no doubt a much higher quality of steel than a sprocket and it looked like it had been welded with a cheap arc welder. Which basically just made it where the sprocket wouldn't come off but it was loose. I still have then engine here, I can take some pictures and post them if you end me to but it would just be a "what not to do" type thing.

    Mind if I ask "why?"

just wondering because I think a Utility trike with a shaft drive is way better than a chain...just my opinion

I had so many issues with my old 200S and what it takes to service a chain on those, coupled with the fact that having 48 acres of covers over the chain didn`t help to keep the water out and makes it stupid hard to lube...I usually cut them off with tin snips for good (on my S and 110)....on a good note, the chain slapping on the inside of the stock cover is a good indicator it needs adjusted w/o being able to see it....I just hate that setup and think shaft is the way to go.

again, just my opinion, so I`m asking

That looks like a honda 200sx quad motor by the way the starter sits behind the cylinder, they were chain drive too.
