1988 trx300 help !!!!!!!!!!

We have a 1988 HONDA TRX300, it runs fine antil you give it over a 1/4 throttle then it sounds like a rev limiter , "cuts out" it's a consistant miss like the rev limiter when you go in reverse but it does it in all gears. I unplugged the rev limter box "ALARM UNIT" and it still does the same thing. It has a clean carb and air filter, good spark plug. what could it be????

The battery is shot,, could that make this model cut out,does it need a good charged battery to run smooth?
