    New rings

Im trying to gather parts for my 1983 Honda 185s.
    What parts will I need?
    -ring set
    -top end gasket kit
    -timing chain (while Im there)

Anything else? think local parts stores will have this? I avoid Ebay if possible, but if I went Ebay I could get the parts listed for like $70...

    Let me know!
    Thanks guys.

If you change the timing chain ("while you`re in there"...this ain`t yer first rodeo is it?...lol...good call)

anyway I always suggest the timing chain tensioner and guide to be replaced as well...a broke one will cause severe damage

second.......valve seals (should come with the complete gasket set but make sure) if they have any in a 185S (not that familiar with those)

    Thanks ironchop!
Im going to overhaul the thing, new rear bearings, sprockets, chain, brakes, rebuild top end, powder coating. Should be fun. Just hope the money all pans out.

Never seen white smoke that reaks of gas be caused by rings, but all the mechaincs think the same thing. Meh. Have to go trikeless for a couple weeks.

I had a similar issue once and the only thing i could figure on the smoke that smelled like gas was that enough got past the rings (very easy to do) to mix with the oil in the crankcase....once the oil got really diluted with gas and therefore overfilled the crankcase, it caused the way thinner oil to seep into the cylinder via the exhaust and then get burnt up.....turns out it had gas in the crankcase due to a carb with a stuck open float parked facing downhill next to my shed and a carb bowl vent tube that happened to be plugged with mud so it drained into the intake and cylinder instead of out the vent tube. About a half a tank worth of fuel. My Coleman generator did the exact same thing last winter....fired it up and it smoked like hell....took the cap off the oil fill and it ran out for 3 minutes (WAY overfilled) and was the consistency of water and reaked of fuel.

that was my guess of the situation but that doesn`t mean you have the same issue

Have you looked at the oil? Drained the oil to see if it has alot of gas in it?
