sparks per revolution on honda 185s

I have a tach hooked up to my 185s. It reads what seems to be half of the right rpm. It has settings for 4 spark per revolution, 3 per rev, 2 per rev, 1 per rev, and then 1 every other rev. If its set on 1 per revolution, it reads half. But on 1 every other rev it seems about right. How often do this motors spark? I know some 4 strokes spark every revolution because its easier to do.

    Good point!
I had a funny noise I couldn't figure out but realized it was timed exactly with the exhaust pulses
so I knew it was valve related.

Anyway, I've never heard anything other than fire after the compression stroke
    on honda trikes.
so 1,2,3,4...every 4th (1/2) rotation of the crank. like, 4 stroke is really only 2 crank revolutions?

Hey, how about checking with a timing light?
You should get blips turning it over slowly without starting it.

So your tach reads off the plug wire?

So what's a nice low thumping idle speed, 6-800 or so?

According to my tach set at 1 spark per every other revolution normal idle is about 1200 to 1300 which I am pretty sure is close to right according to the manual.
