    Exclamation 250R engine problem

When i was riding yesterday, my engine started to clunk at a certain RPM. and it starts idling high and at a weird tempo. This has never happened in summer. I know this isnt normal. has this happened to anyone else? does anyone have an answer?

All R's are noisy but a new "clunk" means something is loose. Crank pin bearing, mains, counterbalancer (or holder/screws) can all make a racket!

The compression would still be fine.

Yank the stator cover and see if the crank has play, esp. when hot. Check the other bearings I mentioned.

If you haven't torn the bottom apart for allot of hours, plan on diving in

Yes dirtcrasher, that is true, but it makes more sense to start trouble shooting the easy stuff first before you start taking the engine apart.

Does it clunk in neutral or only in gear? Might be a broken skirt.

In neutral, no problems there's no load on the engine. In gear.. load and struggling to go until it's off the bottom end.
I'd go as far as looking pulling the reeds out and looking at the piston skirt. Piston with broken skirts can rev high, but the bottom end they cluck and clack and crap.

Drain the oil out, and hope it's not discolored. I'm not sure what all to say on that 1, except maybe the clutches need adjusted or are worn out?
I've got a vid I'll upload to you tube later, blaster broke the piston skirt, maybe it will have a similar sound.

Are you using the right oil?
And what was the last thing you did mechanically to the bike?
