What would worry me is that if you are feeling quite a difference, the compression ratio has probably been changed. You may have to rejet or use a higher octane fuel to compensate. I wonder if it is running leaner and that is the difference you are feeling?
If the compression ratios are the same you really shouldn't feel any difference, or a very small one if any.

RIP Trace.. Godspeed.
It does raise compression. I am playing with jetting now (its running a little lean right now).
I also got my seat cover
I'm also guessing it has a smaller squish and higher comp. Higher comp makes you run hotter also, but i imagine the dg has better cooling with it.

Nice, did you get that off ebay? One went pretty cheap last week. I was going to buy it, but I had no need for it. P.S. let me know if you need anything for your 250r. I have a complete one, minus seat and engine.

Sweet thanks. The only thing i am still looking for is a swing arm skid plate. I got the seat pan in parts lot that i payed like $65 for. It had some surface rust but nothing major.
Definitely a good buy on the seat pan. Those things are extinct! I will look when I get home to see if I have a skid plate.

hey- glad to see you got it mounted!!!! those fins clear eaisy??? didnt have to shave em like on my bike- i had fitted that head once and really liked the way it tapered for the pipe to clear- little different than my others.
BUT yeah i strongly suggest running 50/50 race gas! That DG head was unmilled and had a killer clean dome- puts a 148 psi bike to 185psi. and thats good enough for some real gas. hehe but with the head AND the race gas i didnt have to do any jetting... which the race gas is a tiny bit more rich cuz it burns longer.
AND yeah the first thing i found was when i went down my driveway in 2nd and turned around i could really stab it to spin it around... befor had to give a little "brap brap braaaaaaaa" NOW its jut "BARRRRAAAAPPPPP!!!"
It cleared no problem.I did need to do some jetting. I found you could hear it at idle. I found it makes the bike stall a bit easier now on real tight trails but it it's worth the trade off. I thought the bike spun before but it really does now. When i get the reeds i also have a carb and intake off of an 86 250R to put on.
