OP: Im not sure where you got the impression you cant license and insure trikes in the US. I dont know about other states, but here in NY you can very easliy license and insure a trike. My brother has 2 with plates and insurance, I have 1. Its the exact same thing as licensing a quad for us here. No trouble at all, and all done 100% legit.
Trikes:
'85 ATC 350R
'85 ATC 250R
'86 ATC 350X
'85 ATC 350X
'84 ATC 200ES Big Red
'84 ATC 125M
'85 ATC 110
'85 ATC 70/110
If you have bought from me or sold to me, please leave me feedback here>>> http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthr...+RIDE-RED+250r
Maybe I spoke to generally..but specifically Michigan, my neighbour. Trikes there are still banned, you can't title them!!
Current toys..
1986 Honda 350X..trail bomb!
1985 Honda 250SX..my main mudder
1985 Honda 250ES..Back in Black Trike
Current non-trike toys:
1990 Honda TRX300FW
1995 Seadoo GTX
1998 Polaris Indy Lite 340(Nearly new looking)
1998 Polaris Touring 500
1998 Club Car (electric)
It's a dirty job, but somebody's got to collect em and save em. And that is a fine looking bike, even if it is a Honda. LOL. Still looks to be in great shape and not worn out.
Buy the wife a new pair of shoes, that she likes, and you'll be fine. Add a dress to it and you'll be set for another trike.

1- No state or Province has ever "banned" the ownership of Three wheelers. Most dealers won't touch them with a 10' pole but they can be bought and sold privately without issue.
2- You can get titles for three wheelers in Mi., in fact form what I understand it is one of the easier states to get a title in. One of the other members from London here has had a couple machines titled in Mi before bringing them across.
I think (someone correct me If I'm wrong) that a title in the States is held by the institution holding the loan(as a lien) until the machine is paid for and then you apply to transfer the title to your name?? Because it's not a required document a lot of times it doesn't get transferred with the machine. My understanding is that the title just states that you are the rightful owner and there are no loans against the machine.
3- You will probably need a clear title at the MTO as well as the customs form 1 you got at the border. I did it once with a Banshee without the title by having the Secretary of State office in Mi. fax directly to the MTO office I was using a document showing the title was clear (no one owed $$ to anyone).
4- Licensing is simply a Off Road vehicle registration thing. No road privileges are granted (that's a township by township thing) Insurance is only if you are riding on property other than that owned by you. All you need liability to be legal.
And now the crappy part, A three wheeler is not considered an "ATV" in Ontario by the Highway Traffic act (The law book) An ATV has 4 wheels, a seat that is straddled by the rider, bla bla bla We are considered an ORV. If a Lawyer was involved in writing it you will need a lawyer to understand it

I am pretty sure some of the Michigan folks with nicer trikes than mine have got titles. You can get a title for them, most people just don't bother. They aren't banned in Michigan. Just not a road legal vehicle, so they won't give you plate. You couldn't get a license plate for a quad either. But an ORV sticker will let you travel the right of way everywhere but the highway and freeway. No insurance needed. And you can get an ORV sticker for trikes in Michigan, that's as far as licensing goes for them.
Nice blue 110, if it had to leave Michigan I'm glad it went to a good home.
I guess I'm wrong then..just passing what Canada Customs told me. But then they are government!!

That's what is funny about customs, they all know something, just not what they think they know. Probably they just never see them come through with titles.
That sounds about right, Canada customs telling someone about Michigan Titles............ I had to argue a little when I brought my R's back about the "newer than 15 yr " thing. He was wrong..
Sweet 110 BTW
