Damaged cylinder repair opinions needed after a dose of bad luck

Ok, here is the deal, I bought a NOS KX cylinder from a fellow board member, he packed it as good or better than I would have... (double boxed with peanuts and bubble wrap) yet the post office managed to somehow crush the thing so bad it actually pushed the skirt through both boxes and the bubble wrap and snapped it off...




I spoke over the phone with Eric Gore and from my description he believes he can weld it, machine it and re-nikisil it, anyone have any opinions on this?

here is the box/packing (not to show fault of the shipper but the mishandling by the post office)




PS: Please refrain from the "You Shoulda Put Insurance on it" speech, I already got that from my wife

Ship it back to him with Insurance on it and "damage" the box when it gets to his house.... Thats mail fraud.. Don't do that lol.

Man thats a heart breaker to see new parts broken thanks to the mail system. If the guy is good he should be able to grove out the area on both sides of the crack, TIG weld it, and re-nikisil the bore.

My .02. You will have better luck running it that way, then collecting insurance from USPS. I ,nore my nephew,,who ships worldwide everyday,,have ever collected anything. They have a loophole for everything!! So,don't feel bad about no ins. Yes,,that can be welded,bored,and renikked,better than new,prolly $225? Thru my guys. Good luck!

Eric will be able to repair that. I've been to his place a few times, and can tell you he's very fair and honist. Sad to see that type of damage however on a NOS cyl.

Insurance never gets covered one way or the other.

Depending on what you paid, I'd rather have another one than risk future damage dropping into the bottom end.

Those types of things need to be double boxed, it has an exposed weak area.m It has to be supported/covered with Styrofoam or thick corrugated cardboard. They move thousands of packages every day, bubble wrap doesn't cut it and the first box looks thin.

I pack the sh!t out of my stuff.............

theres lotsa guys that can fix it good as new.. but other than the virgin exhaust spigot it wont be any better than just replating a used one.. may as well use it as is and replate a different one.. otherwise you are just wasting the virgin plating...
