    85 250sx rear end noise

    Greetings!!

I have a 85 250sx. The rear end is making some noise. I can see where it has been pulled apart before, and resealed on both tube ends and differential.

The deal is that it makes a slight squeal or high pitched groan, when you push the bike back and forth slowly. It does not make any noise on a jack running in gear, just at a near rest.. It almost sounds as if the diff were dry and seems a bit stiff.. the diff oil has been changed, and there was no metal in it. I think it is emananting from the diff, and not the wheel bearings, but not 100% sure. Otherwise it runs and drives normally.

I compared it to my other 85 which is quiet, and seems to turn more easily.

What do you all think?. recommendations?

    Thank you!!

    Mike

My sx did that before...at very very slow slow movement there was a slight squeal I would listen to it with the engine off while pushing it on the lawn. I changed the back wheel bearings and the problem disappeared. If you think your differential is dry sounding but you already put in 100cc of SAE 80 I would think it is your bearings......though someone can pipe it...what does a universal joint sound like when it is going ? Could it be that ?

Thank you. Yes, that is exactly what I'm hearing. Hopefully, when I can, I'll change them out and hope for the best!!

Maybe trying pulling the brake drum off quick, and roll it back and forth. (Quick check to make sure its nothing in there...)
No trikes. Too old, too crippled. Unless I find one I can't live without!

Yep, I had the same thing two years ago on my 250sx. It started off slight, and turned really nasty a while later. It was the wheel bearings.
