350x parts interchange info / questions

Hi - I've been using the new search for a couple of hours but I missed a definitive answer... please help if you can.

I bought a rough 85 350x. I'd like to get a case saver and sprocket cover for it, but I haven't seen much available.

Do these parts interchange from any of the quads or other ATV Honda made or makes - like a 250 or 300ex?

Also, my X has an 86 engine in it. The clutch cable is still routed like an 85 which explains why it's broken. I see one bracket on the back of the 86 engine for a clutch cable - should there be more?

I downloaded the PDF manual already - time for more study.

I guess I better take some pictures, too.

No other case saver or guard fits. Plenty of aftermarket guards and the case saver is simple.

There is a bracket in the back, on the stator and a wire guide on the bottom of the oil cooler for the 86 clutch cable routing.........

    The 85's melt.

Well, sorry if it bothers ya but hundreds/thousands of other people have......

Honda re-engineered things constantly trying to improve upon the previous design. Clips, clamps, guides, wire loops, covers etc etc.

Out of the 60 some odd differences from an 85 to a 86 350X, many were subtle changes without much importance; Yet others well well thought out and improved on the previous year.

Not that im arguing with ya DC...but if the metal sleeve is on the clutch cable and routed the correct way it wont melt.
but as you said, many were subtle changes without much importance; Yet others well well thought out and improved on the previous year.

the rerouting of the cable was a great idea!

Case savers suck. If you have a sprocket guard, cut a piece of oil impregnated delrin to fit inside it. Dremel out a hole exactly matching the size and shape of your sprocket/chain.

If your chain comes aloose it will free spool rather than cracking your case... Normal case savers don't always work, this one does.
