    Changing gears stupid question

O.k so I admit after rebuilding my project 125m I have only ridden it in first gear. I presumed it was like the other bikes I have owned, 1 down, 3 up. I tried for second a couple of times and only got nuetral so I have decided to cease looking like a fool in front of my neighbours until I find out if that is the way the gears go as my friend seemed to think it was 4 down from neutral.

So if someone can confirm the gear changing sequence I would be eternally grateful.

another thing we forget is that..
if you let the shifter go slowly, it's like slipping a clutch.
    useful sometimes
and makes it possibly to 'push' start these things.
