What is the cost of a 85 250r motor rebuild?

I was wondering what would be the cost of a 3rd gen 250r motor rebuild, top and bottom. I know that there are a lot of variables here such as location, company, condition of motor, etc. I would like to send it somewhere to get it professionally done.

My 250r motor runs great, though i can only imagine how many hours are on the top end. It may be time for a rebuild.

I have heard that a top end can cost around $300, correct? I'm fairly sure i can handle rebuilding the top end, though i will admit that opening the cases does intimidate me.

I'm sure the easiest way to answer this question would be to call up a shop and ask for a quote, but i would like to know what the general prince range would be.

    Thanks.

Basically if your cylinder is good you only have the cost of a top end gasket kit and a piston kit, here is one buy it now for under $180 shipping included:

It shouldn't take more than a couple hours at a laid back leisurely pace...

Here is a sleeved cylinder and piston kit thats at $250 with a few days to go:

as far as bottom end, a new crank will run you +/- $200 all the seals will run you another maybe $50 to 100, of course while its apart you want to check all the trans parts out etc...

I have never had a shop do one for me (I don't even take bikes back for the first free service, i just do it myself) but I would guess that their labor rate is in the $75 range and to split the cases and clean, reassemble etc your probably looking at 4 to 6 hours so a guess would be around $350 to $450 in labor, and if you have them do it they will likely want to supple the parts, which means markup over what you can buy them yourself for, I'd say a $1K+ wouldn't be out of the question if you had the Honda Shop do it for you -vs- doing it yourself for less than half
