so my dad just bought a 1984 250r it runs really good its in decent shape and everything... but third gear is out of it or so we think when you shift into third its like there is nothing there. is it the gear is sheared or somthing else. Also there is nothing making noise in it like metal on metal is it safe to ride it like is ? also i need a pdf manual if some one has one thanks

i rode about 100 feet tonight test riding it, boy wat a change from my 200x's lol

I wouldn't ride it like that is definitely going to need the case opened sounds like a worn shift fork I had one in a kawasaki ninja and the gear jump started wearing on my next gear up

It could be the cogs on the side of the gears. If the little cogs have broke off and are in the bottom of the case out of harms way you may get by OK riding it but no guarantees.

I would play it safe don't ride it. pull it apart, if ya got the dough do a full rebuild, if you plan on keeping it it will be cheaper in the long run.... I know where there's a 82 250r that needs carb work. for 300 bucks, so there still cheap and still out there.
