    Average Speed for a 200s ?

i'm tryin to find the average speed of a atc 200s.. its a 1985

mine has original sprockets, 22x11-8 tires... but the top speed is only around 35-40

it revs high... but just doesnt pick up speed....

thinkin about finding a smaller rear sprocket .., because we ride from my house to go mudding.... and everyone takes 185's, 200's, big red's, sx's... and they leave me... my little brother's 110 stays right with me...

what can i do for now... until i get the tecate up and going then they can forget about seeing me... all they'll see is a green dot way up in front of them

... not that its really that scientific, but I ran my '84 200S next to my buddies old Datsun 240Z one night down a 2 mile long deserted half finished road and maxed it out at a perfect 50 mph and stayed there for a while until the headshake scared me off. That was with stock gearing and 22x12x8 Wolleys on the back. The only engine mods it had were a DG RCM pipe, a uni-filter and a stock bore Wiesco piston.

my 185s goes 50 but it has a bad habit of overheating..all its got done to it is a 30 over bore...the pipe that was on it when i tached it was a 2 foot straight from the header...now its got a trx 125 exhaust on the end of that pipe..lol..its quieter but i think it lost some power so ima take it off

The last two people have some exagerations...My 350x only does 72. And there is no way in hell a stock 110 will do 50. The top speed for a 200 is about 40-45.

I heard that a Big Red 250es will do around 55mph tops. Not sure if that was with the stock exhaust or not...

Here's a few top speeds I read in one of the ATC magazines back in the day (can't remember for sure but I think it was 3&4 Wheel Action). Not sure why these things managed to stick in my head and the name of the mag doesn't but my head is kinda funny like that. Take them for what you will but they were asked by readers how they got those readings and if they were legit and they always claimed they were completely legit and tested by radar guns and on actual drag strips (car drag strips).

    1987 Tecate: 94mph
    1986 250R: 92mph
    1988 Banshee: 88mph
    1986 350x: 72mph

Those are the only ones I remember. Most people claim a 250R will top out somewhere in the mid 80's but there's several factors that could have an affect of a few mph (elevation, temperature etc) so I do believe they were not making it up. All tests were on pavement apparently so no wheel spin involved. I'm pretty sure this was the same magazine (but different issues) that made a drag racer out of the '88 Banshee, took it to a drag strip and got a 101mph quarter mile out of it. They had a picture of it doing the burnout on the cover.

Someday I'm gonna buy a radar gun.

According to them it did. At least concerning those specific and completely stock models. The Banshee has more than enough guts to pull a taller gear though. I think they may have intentionally held it back because of all the fuss going on around that time that got trikes banned.

Alot of people weld the front sprockets cause the clips never wanna stay on,the weld can be chiseled off , most people go weld crazy on them which make them hard to remove cause you are eventually gonna have to change that sprocket they don't last forever, anyhow you only need little tac-welds to hold the front sprocket it basically just keeps it from sliding off it doesn't actually hold all weight and energy of the trike moving the grooves on the shaft and sprocket do that..
