    Burning Oil..looking for suggestions

My 1982 Honda 200e starts burning oil once it gets warmed up. Doesn't smoke on start-up, only once its hot. It has plenty of power and good compression. I would assume this means the valve guides are leaking, but I'm not sure. Also, it idles fine at startup, but once its warm it starts ideling real fast. Are these two issues related? Leaky head gasket? Warped head? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds like its time for a top end rebuild to me . You could always try an oil change first to see if it helps .

Valve seals are at start up only. The oil weaps down the stem overnight ,or over time. Tear her down, bore, piston and rings, valve job,and be a happy camper! If you really want to know it's in the cylinder. Remove the breather hose off your crankcase. the smoke will be coming out there, verifying the rings aren't sealing in the cylinder : )

Just seeing smoke. I have to add oil every so often, but not every ride.

Thanks for all the tips guys. I will try 20w 50 temporarily, but will likely tear down the top end in the near future. I've been putting it off cause it runs real well, but sooner or later it will need to be done.

Any ideas what would be causing high idle after its warmed up? I haven't really investigated this issue. Normally, I would assume a vacuum leak somewhere between the airbox and the intake, but in this case it only idles high once its hot.
