Dunno if its the closest, but Silver lake sand dune in Mears, mi is pretty fun, I think it would be about 8-10 hours from NY

thats awesome. thanks for the info. i was all super excited and looked it up. looks amazing but then i read how u have to pass noise ordinance. and its set for 94 decibels!!! its so ridiculous. they said basically if u have any aftermarket exhaust that would add horsepower then u wont pass. they also shove a plastic rod in the muffler because it must have baffles.

so stupid. who is gonna hill climb and run on wide open dunes and have a quiet exhaust. all this good stuff gets ruined by rules in a supposed free country....sux. i cant imagine they attract all that much business as they used to with this new rule.

Wisconsin is the same way Technically pretty much ANY ATV even with 2-3 years use will not pass just from wear if checked. The dnr watches for 3 wheelers and 2 strokes. I wish it was just 96db at idle. Lots of tree huggers here make it hard for anyone one to do anything besides walk and take pictures of bugs and weeds in the wild.

The same rules apply at any dunes really. I always take it easy around any dune police. Spark arrestors and quiet exhaust are needed everywhere. Its a shame that a lot of these old bikes really have no option for a quiet exhaust besides a stock can.

I am sure both my 350x and 250r are too loud. We have private access to our section of dunes though, the parking lots are where the forest service usually hang out with the sound equipment. I avoid those places like they are plagued.

They work the parking lot, and have portable handheld devise that changes each year or two and they go trailer to trailer looking first and then testing randomly . Holidays everyone I think gets checked if you are entering the dunes. One time I got stopped out in the dunes and I didn't pass at 1/2 throttle and they let me put my stocker back on w/out any trouble, but that was a couple years ago. Today I would guess it would cost some money , but you never know, Michigan DNR is pretty cool if you don't pee in there wheaties. I never have had any big problems sledding or ATVing up there for 20 years.
