    86 kawasaki tecate value?

    I am looking at an 86 in good condition no rust, a few cracks in the plastics but overall it is pretty clean. It has an aftermarket pipe,and rear paddles. The motor won't start because low compression,rear shock needs rebuilt,and the shifter has been re-welded from being broken. Sorry I did'nt get any pictures. What is a fair price? He also has a decent 86 honda 250r 3 wheeler I might buy also.

    People get retarded money for second-gen Tecates these days, which is fine cause it leaves more first-gens for me!

    It is impossible to make a guess about that without pictures, but from what you have said I would expect a person who is familiar with Tecates and wants good money for it to ask at least $900 or so. He could definitely be asking more though.

    If he doesn't know or doesn't care what he has than who knows what he could ask.

    The guy wants 1500. I will get a picture when I go back to check it out again. You don't see them too often especially here in norcal.

    Well, here is the list of replacment stuff, Plastics $200, Engine rebuild $300-500, Rebuild rear shock $200, and the shifter will be fun to replace. I have seen decent Tecates that go for $2000-2500. And thats where I think they should be (Not Mint OEM ones). I would say to try to get it for $1,000 as you will more than likely dump at least $500-800 just to get it going. I never understood people who think you take the cost of what it would cost to fix and just take that amount off a complete running one.

    Also does it have the overflow bottle or Toolbox as both those items if present should make it worth it if under $1,500.

    I would try to get him down to like 1300 but for what guys are paying for tecate stuff its hard.

    Thanks for the input. I was thinking he would say 1000 or 1200 not 1500. I just don't know enough about what is still available as far as getting parts goes. I figured doing everything myself I was guessing 500 to 700 to get it rideable so 1200 bucks is more reasonable.

    you have a good job? or have lots of money stored away? because get ready to spend some dough on parts, compared to what honda parts go for. Because I was shocked!! after i got my 86 T3, granted i didnt know to much about them before i got it but i was expecting honda parts prices OH BOY was i wrong. Parts are pretty exspensive but if you like them, ya just squinch and grind the teeth and push send payment lol.

    Squinch and grind the teeth.... ah yes the plight of the Tecate owner. But most tecate owners would have it no other way... tragic bunch we are.

    You said a mouthful OZ, even with squinched teeth, lol. That's just the thing, over twice as many liquid R's than Tecate's. The B's are extremely special.
    83' 200x (son's). 85' 200 auto-x & 85' 125m (daughters). 84' Tecate(?). 85' KXT Tecate (mine!, mine!, mine!.)+ some others but don't feel like typing them in.
