    ATC110 Smoking

Hello, My 1982 ATC110 is smoking pretty bad with white smoke. It smokes while you are not throttling it at all, then when you throttle the smoke stops, but when you stop it starts again. Im not sure what to do with it, I read that if you have the top end sent it they can reuild it and it will stop smoking. If any of you guys know what to do, i would appreciate the help. Thanks.

Hmmm. Oil is typically blue smoke, which rebuilding the top end probably won't fix. It sounds like you are burning (boiling, actually) water somewhere in the system and its coming out your exhaust. You take it through any water lately? It been sitting outside?

To address your rebuild question, I think there is a
valve seal on the exhaust valve that can cause excessive oil
consumption and blue smoke and might save you a rebuild.

White smoke is a different story. Does it smell like anything in particular?

just because its white does not mean its not oil. I agree, get it real hot and boil off any moisture it has, but chances are its time for a rebuild anyway, these old trikes are all long over due by now.

your going to want to bore it to the next size up to get a fresh cylinder surface and a new piston with rings to the new size of the cylinder.
(well you generally match the cylinder to the new bigger piston you get but you know what im saying)

Thanks everybody. I am new and don't know much about these things, and I really appreciate all your advice. Are you talking about sending it in and having the people over bore it? Because i have no clue how to do anything like that. Thanks!

About the boring... I could not find a shop in my area that was even remotely interested in boring a jug. And that includes the honda dealer. I ended up doing it myself with a hone. It's trickey work so if your not confident then don't do it. Good luck finding a shop to hone it for you. Should be easier for you in wichita than it was for me in the middle of nowhere.

Are you saying that you needed a bore and used a hone instead?

I was thinking the same thing. He says it is tricky work - I believe that. That would be some trick boring a cylinder with a hone.
