    Big Red Neutral Light Problem

The neutral light on my big red wont turn on.I bought a new bulb, put it in,and still doesn't light up.It will just glow orange inside the bulb faintly. And if I rev the engine high it will light up but as soon as I let off it goes out but it always will lightly glow orange but no light. My reverse light works great so what's the problem?

Sounds like you have High resistance in the circuit, check what you can see of the wiring, but you may just need a new Neutral Sensor switch.

Yes it sounds like a sensor problem...try taking out your reverse and neutral sensor switches and swapping them. The two sensors are both the same part and will interchange, they are located down low on the clutch side of the engine, their is a small defector covering the wiring plug that goes to them, the sensors sort of look like miniature sparkplugs. They have a 14mm head, you will need to either drain the oil or turn the bike on its side because oil will pour out when you remove the sensors. You know that the reverse sensor works as it should already, so if you swap them and your neutral light works but your reverse light doesnt, that will tell you that you have a faulty sensor

i got my neutral safety switch at a local
    TRIumph shop for 12 bucks.

Apparently they fit a few different machines

If they do not work, the starter will not spin.

If the connections are marginal at the nertralu s sw
, the extra starting amperage may make it work.

They are notorius for coming loose and getting covered in oil
so a good cleaning and slight crimping may fix it from the outside.

    atcfactoryracer described it.

Under a sheetmetal shield near the footpeg there are 2 wires
with a double rubber funny connector.
it has a big N and R on it and connects to 2 separate
miniature sparkplug looking switches that move to on or off
by motion of parts inside the case.

I forget the wire colors but there are 2 of them running together
unLESS someone's already been in there with their mic key mouse toolbox.

when the trike is in neutral, it allows the starter to spin
so you don't start in gear.

I'm pretty sure there is a shop manual under the 'world class help'
    section.

I'd call it an important safety feature.

He might have a 1984 200es big red. If that is the case none of these answers will help. If you can verify what model you have that would be helpful in getting you the right answer.

It is an 85-87 Big Red. The connectors were hosed and been fixed/rigged. May be just a contact problem at the terminal.

Im gonna check the connections and make sure their good again. When we first got it the neutral light worked so maybe something came a little loose from riding.

I checked it and everythings good.I noticed if I push on the wire at the bottom behind the cover the bulb will glow slightly brighter orange but still wont come on all the way.I checked them and everything is connected good and is not corroded or loose...
