    tuning help 81 250r

ok folks, I put a new 38mm round slide keihin and a DG head pipe on my 250r. the carb came with a 135 main jet, since the bigger oval slide carb it replaced had a 145 jet i figured i would swap to that to start with and see what happens on start up, from cold it kicked over on the first kick and wouldn't idle well. and wouldn't rev up much at all unless I feathered the throttle and still wont get to top revs. checked the plug and its wet, so I went back to the 135 jet. now to get it to idle well the idle mixture screw is turned all the way in and it will rev up to half throttle well but any higher than that then it bogs out and dies, and the plug is still wet. do I need to go down some more jets? or what? or what should I do? what needs adjusting?

Could be too much carb for that bike, adjust the needle clip and see what happends then go down a jet size if nothin happeneds...

I would say your deffinitly gona have jetting issues on the top once properly jetted the carb will perform well but it will have horrible low end and throttle response... I see people running 38's on air cooled bikes but most usually there big bores or have some serious motor work on a piped stock or close motor 34mm is most adequate... As far as jetting advice start your air scew 1 1/2 turns out around a 40-45 pilot work on idle and then focus on getting main jet close...
