Mixed gas in a Honda 200X

My son went out on the weekend and picked up a 1983 Honda 200X. He got a great deal as it was running like crap. The dummy he bought it from was running mixed gas in it thinking it was a two stroke!!! Once we clean the carb and the tank the bike should run good correct? Mixed gas would not cause any long term damage would it?

    Thanks for your help...

Nope! Just the opposite! Depending on his choice of 2 cycle oil,,it lubed the valve stems, loosened the carbon, and will not hurt a thing. Change your plug, clean and oil your filter, change and flush your engine oil, lube and adjust your chain, make sure your brakes work, and go ride!

I wouldn't worry about it, those engines can take lots of crap and still run strong.

I have heard that running a little 2-stroke oil in a four stroke helps keep the valves good so you should be fine.

I put a bit of Klotz in my snowblower and my lawnmower... If i'm not going to be snowmobiling or dirt biking because of chores, I at least want it to smell like riding! Right Fabio?
    It's all good, don't worry.

yeah, thats a great thing to hear compared to when u get a used bike from these idiots that know nothing. like the SX i got that they hack sawed the muffler off, and put a dirtbike front end on for "drag racing!"

thats right, was told it was faster because he did that stuff and would beat blasters. lol

i wish he said he mixed oil in it....

I swear some people shouldn't even touch anything with an engine. But glad it was saved! Flush that 2 stroke gas, change the oil, and go ride!

Maybe thats the guys way of storing it for the winter so the tank don't rust my redneck friend does that and just dumps it onto his fire pit to burn when he runs non mixed gas I never did it cause I ride my trikes all year(ice racing). I personally think its a waste of 2 stroke oil.

Mixing 2 stroke does have a down side. It can help foul plugs. It also leans out your fuel/air, not much, but it does lean it out. You'll lose a little performance from it. NOW the 50:1 or 100:1 ratios are worth that unnoticeable power drop. It really does do good! get a good oil and it can do wounders for carbon build up. I run yamaha lube 2r most of the time in my 175 - Had next to no carbon after 5 gallons.

If you are talking about a 30 year old car ok, but if it's a newer car with cats and O2 sensors it isn't a great idea..can lead to expensive repairs.

Indeed, lots of systems can be fouled up or run amuck in newer cars with the addition of 2 stroke oil in the fuel system. The engines are designed to run on modern pump gases, so that is when the engine will run at its best.
