Gas question...

alright well i'm looking at a 96 250 bored 70 over polaris quad, the guy said he got drunk 1 night and grabbed what he though was gas and turned out to be diesel and he made it down the driveway before it stalled, he said he pushed it home and it sat (so he says) for a month before hr drained it then he just let it sit been about a year as he lost interest in it...

i'm wondering did the diesel hurt anything? or can i just flush it out good clean the carb and hope it runs?

I know when you put gasoline in a diesel, bad things happen. but I think diesel in a gas motor MIGHT be ok. He could have just fouled the plug.

You say its a Polaris 250 quad? I'm wondering if it's two stoke, if oil was mixed in...

hmm i'll have to go talk to him again.. i did notice there was 2 gas caps on the tank i wondered what the second smaller 1 was for lol

I would say that the trip down the driveway was burning what was in the bowl and when the diesel got to it it died. Should be ok if the story you got is true. And it is 2 stoke-oil injected. I have a 96 250 and a 2001 400. They are great machines. I would be more concerned with it being bored 70 over. That is alot.

hmm never owned a 2 stroke lol, so i take it the lil gas cap is for the some sort of 2 stroke oil?

and he has 2 but the other 1 i didn't pay much attention 2 as he said it needs a $200 dollar cdi.. i'm sure i can get the cdi cheaper though he wants $500 for both might try to talk em down to like $300 and get both of em
