Why do you need to know?

    Here is what Maier uses...

"...a proprietary thermoplastic olefinic elastomer (TPO), specifically designed for our applications. This high-impact polypropylene alloy delivers a high-gloss finish with strength characteristics capable of enduring extreme weather and temperature conditions. Maier plastics are UV-stablized, resistent to chemicals and avaliable in a wide array of colors and films."

Polypropylene is what milk jugs are made out of.

    Plastic...... lol

High Density Polyethylene is what Milk Jugs are made of.

If you notice Milk jugs do not have that shine a set of fenders will have, the Polypropylene is a harder plastic that has the characteristics of being able to give that shine a new set of fenders has.

Some headlight assemblies are metal. Some fenders were fiberglass. Early plastic Honda fenders were made from a very hard plastic and later fenders were made from a softer, or more flexible plastic. Materials seemed to vary as the technologies improved.

The reason I'm asking is because I'm going to need a black 350X headlight set up for my 85 200 AutoX project. I've seen threads here on different ways to color the plastics, from paint to dyeing to that aussie guy who made the black headlight housings for the 350X, but it doesn't appear he's been around in awhile so I'm guessing that those aren't available anymore. Knowing the proper material may give me the proper info to effectively color the 350X headlight housing I have without ruining it. I have a couple of old broken 200S headlight housings I could practice the dye method on and they also have automotive spray type dyes. Has anyone tried those out at all?

WIkid500: HDPE is available with a high gloss, I've used it to replace factory belly pans on sleds at a fraction of the cost of an OEM plastic belly pan. It's also used for truck bed liners. Both HDPE and Polypropylene are polyolefin derivitives, so they are somewhat similar materials.

I'll post a thread on the 200 AutoX build as soon as I get all the parts together and get started.

Oops on the milk jug plastic comment.

Here is a cheap possibility for a black headlight shell:

    BLACK UNIVERSAL HEADLIGHT

Thanks for the link, but I'm gonna run a 350X headlight assembly. I will use paint as a last ditch option. I've been reading up on how to dye plastic and I've got some fender and headlight scraps around here I could practice on.
