Man I really like that. I could work that oxidation off of those fenders and make that thing look like new. I can remember looking at a new one just like that at the dealership. If I remember correctly it has a kickstart shaft sticking out and the kicker was in a box like a toolkit or with the toolkit. It has been 28 years ago. I wanted a Kawi because no one that I rode with had one. Back in those days everybody I rode with had 185's or 200's. I was one of only 3 people that had a Big Red. Only 1 250R at that time too. there was about 40 trikes that rode together every weekend.

I think the 83 was chain drive electric start, my 82 was. 5 speed manual.

I believe you are right. It had the kickstart shaft but you had to put the kicker on if the electric start didn't work.

After close examination of the photos, I must be wrong about the kicker. I dont see the shaft.

Wow, that was a good option. I only had the one 250, it didn't have the tool box. I was surprised when I found they were manual shift. I had a KLT160, that was Shaft Drive with reverse, look liked it been through a war and still drove like a little tank!

Yeah, I have an 82 klt200 and I really wish all my 83's had a kick backup. My kicker actually stays on the shaft. I've only removed it once to check it out. Probably should put some sort of pin through it before it falls off....
