Hey guys,
I replaced a tire on the rear two piece rim of my ATC 70. I siliconed the and reused the seal, tightened them down and the rim leaks at the mating surface. Any tricks to get this to work?

As that article stated......both surfaces must be spotless. I use a bit of silicone as well. The trick is to tighten bolts very evenly and slowly. Do not bury one and move on to another etc.....a little at a time... Uually they get distorted and flatened after one or 2 uses, I would try new o-rings or just cut you own out of an old tube. I cut my own at Icefest this year in a pinch and it sealed fine. You can use a small diameter pipe and ato cut bolt holes.

On my atc 110 with good ol leaky split rims, what I ended up doing was liberally coating the large o ring with tire slime. also make sure the plates that fit inside the rim are present as they act like a giant washer. good luck, mine were pretty badly corroded but the tire slime did the trick, haven't leaked in a year and a half of hard riding now.
U could just put tubes in too. Really cheap now.

best thing is new o-rings really.
IMO, if your gonna use silicone. clean it very well and check to make sure the two halves are seating flush and flat. run a small bead on both halves, filling the groove for the o-ring. you'll want it to be a bit higher than the mating surface. after it's set-up bolt them back together and forget about the old o-ring. my buddy and i have done this a few times (we used DAP clear acrylic silicone caulk) on the rims of a couple of his toys, sometimes it doesn't work first time but we eventually get it. don't forget you gotta let it set-up first. then when you do get new 0-rings, it peels off fairly easy IMO, but have heard bad stories about it not coming off sometimes. i've even used it to seal my neutral switch wire going into my case. lol
yes i think it's very redneck, but it does work. although i still recommend new o-rings overall. lol
Thanks for all of the info guys. I'll split em apart again and make sure they are spotless and re-seal em with silicone again and see if that works. If not I'll try to slime em. I'll keep you posted.
I read in a post awhile back to clean them real well, and weld them together... Then mount tires like a normal rim... (thats what I would do at least...)
No trikes. Too old, too crippled. Unless I find one I can't live without!

2 pce's are deffinently pain. On my last trip out, on my front wheel the studs pulled through one half but held the other half to the hub. Was very interesting to say the least. Of course, might of had something to do with jumping a 110. lol
We should try and get ITP or Douglas to make a stock size wheel (steel or aluminum) for the 70. One that we could mount 16x8x7 tires onto
