    Honda 200s vs 185s power?

I am looking to buy a nice original 1983 185 for the same price I can get a 1982 185 with a 200s engine in it...I am looking to do a few mods (200x carb) Can you feel a differance in power between the 2? What about top speed?

    ...What engine is "best?"

I heard the 185 is faster than the 200?

I'd put 50 bucks down that no stock 185s would beat my 200S. I've rode the 185, and I've rode a stock 200S, and the 185 feels similar, but not completely as fast. You have to remember that there's only 15cc's worth of difference between the two though. That's not much. The 185 has the weight/power advantage though.

This is my trike. There are many like it but this one is mine. My trike is my best friend, and it is my life. I must master it as I must master myself. My trike without me is useless. Without my trike, I am useless. I must ride my trike true. My trike and I know that what counts is not the amount of miles we ride, but the time we ride together. My trike is human in it's own ways, therefore I will learn it as my brother. I will learn it's weaknesses, it's strengths, it's parts, and it's soul.

So since they are both about the same power engine, I will probally just pick the one in better shape...
The 185s has better tires and racks and looks all original where as the 200 (in a 81' 185s frame) looks a litte more
peiced together but seemed to have a lot of power!...Ill be trying out the 185s in the am...also the 185 has front shocks.
They are asking $375 for each...

Actually, it's only 12cc's. The 185s was 180cc and 200s is 192cc. Not much difference at all. In my admittedly unscientific tests a few years ago, my 200s outran my buddy's 185s, but only at the very top end. Could have been a lot of reasons for this though. Overall, they're about the same.

they are pretty close to the same , the difference would amount to the history and care given to each, I would probably go with the 83 the little bit of front susp. is nice and racks are real handy , they did make a 185 that had 9 inch wheels 1980-81 not a s model was bigger frame and tires , also shifted down instead of up , you could always put a 200x top end and carb aftermarket exhoust to get more power..

My buddy has both a stock 185s and a stock 200s. His 185 is noticeably more peppy than his 200 and will beat it hands down in a race. Possibly his 200 is just more tired out, or the carb isn't tuned quite right, or the 185 frame is lighter, but in my experience the 185 is plenty powerful. Post pictures when you get your new machine!

Well I just got home from trying the 185s and it a pig compared to the 185s with a 200s engine I tried yesterday...That 200s engine ran STRONG ! This 185s was ok...it could have been slow and rode like from the 26" mud tires on the back!! The 185s has been beat hard and made the 200s (185s) I tried yesterday seem like a great deal...Again the power of that 185s with the 200s engine was impressive!

Yes - in 1980 the BIG HOSS trike was the ATC185 (non S model) It was big - the same size as the 1981- 1983 ATC200 (also non-S models)- 25" tires and larger frame than the later model 1981-1983 ATC185S (which is the same size as a 1984 - 1986 ATC200S)

Basically here is how it went:

    1980 - ATC185 = large
    1981 - 1982 ATC200 = large
    1981 - 1982 ATC185S = smaller
    1983 - ATC200 = large - update with front suspension
    1983 - ATC185S = smaller - update with front suspension
    1984 - 1986 ATC200S= smaller (no more larger model)

The 185 motor made slightly more horsepower (like less than 1 more HP) but the 200 made more torque. Any comparison made after about 1990 would not be very good considering worn out motors and parts. I have had very fast and very slow 185 and 200 models - depending on how abused they were. I currently have a very low hour ATC185 and it has good power - btu the gearing is higher, so my ATC185S feels faster. Weight difference in machines is minimal
    ATC200 ATC185 = Approx 299#
    ATC185S ATC200S = Approx 270#

Now with only 12 - 14 HP - you have to take rider weight into consideration - also tires are a factor, a big heavy Trail-Pro will be much more weight to turn than a stock knobby.
RIP - Yamahondaman!! You will never be forgotten!
RIP - Sam Brehm!! Gone but NEVER forgotten!
RIP - Sandpuppi101 - You will live on in my mind - I miss you friend!

You could also install an xr 200 piston which pumps up the compression
