When are calipers too far gone?

Bought rebuild kits for both front and rear, with a block off plate for the rear. Then I took 'em apart and found this:

that one is pretty bad. usually its just the outside seal area looks like that, is it all pitted up?? You could have it bead blasted, it will prob clean it up good enough to use. the piston only rides on the robber seals, so the only place to worry about is where the seals sit. Guess it depends how pitted up the seal surface is. i'm sure it is salvageable.

Frustrating. I wonder if it's even worth trying. Anyone got experience with this?

    How do the pistons look?

AldoChina hit the nail on the head - the key is the grooves for the seals. Will they clean up enough to seal? Will they clean up enough so the seals will fit right and the piston will move freely? Hit the cylinder with a wire brush on the drill and see what it looks like.

How do the pin/slider holes look?

Might be time for a CR80 or KX60 caliper. They're cheap enough. I have a CR80 front on the back of my 84 200x and another on the way for the back of my 85 350x.
