new. please help with tire opinion. anyone run these?

my local tire store sells Carlisle atv tires. the 2 i have to choose from is the old standby knobby tires and also the stryker tire.I need 3 . i like them both but not sure what is right for me. i am new to this. i have an 1982 atc 185s that i will be putting down trails with (no fast stuff here) and also hunting with it. while hunting i will more then likely see rain, snow, mud and if its hot, just dusty dirt. my tire size is 22x11x8. the stryker seems more stout. also if i go with the stryker, i notice online that its labled a "rear tire" can i run one up front or will it be to big or something... only a $2.00 diff in price . here are pics of the two

2 Strykers in the rear,1 knobby on front. If it pulls one way,let air out of the tire on the other side so it tracks strait. Only telling you this cuz your new! I would put around 2-3 psi in the rears. But if they're off a little in size,they will pull! Good luck.

i have the knobbies and recommend the strykers. after driving in the creeks around here the knobbies aren't too good with mud and wet sand. the ones i've been thinking about myself are the Chin Shin Lumberjack's they are simalar to the stryker style tread, bit more pricey though if i remember right. they also have it in 2 types with the same tread. the regular ones and the Lumberjacks which are deeper tread and heavier basicly.


EDIT: yes you can run the stryker in front too, it's really personal preferance really.

thanks man. i just like the look of all 3 tires looking the same... just looks cleaner to me i guess. i dont think i should have any clearance problems running a stryker in the front. i hope..lol they seem to be a little taller then the knobbys...am i right?

sorry, not really sure if they are that much bigger, i doubt it. the only one i know who runs the strykers is my buddy, but they're on his Big Red which are a 25x12x9 tire instead of a 22x11x8.

Where you at? I've got a set of 3 of the Stykers on a Tecate I just bought. They are like new, still having most of the nipples on them. I'm not going to use them, if you're interested and the shipping isn't too bad, we might work out a deal.

Personally I wouldn't run a stryker on the front. With the stryker having less lugs than the knobby there is less side bite(edges of the lugs) for the tire and the front end might have a tendencey to push while cornering compared to the knobby. IMO strykers in the back and knobby up front.

I run two strykers on the back, and one knobby on the front of my 250es, that setup has done wonders in sand, mud, snow, anything I've thrown at it. Having a knobby on the front is better for steering than going Strykers all around.

a friend of mine has strykers on the back and a knobby on the front, and he's running a 185's they give to good power slides when you want them to so, the choice is ultimately yours. I would however recommend not having a striker up front that would be like putting a up there oooh and I just said a naughty word haha. The saddest thing is I filled up a set of strykers with river mud so fast once I made it 10' and had to get off and push the other 30', whereas I have went alot further with s on my 225.

Id run the knobby on the front. it will help grab if you are trying to turn while riding in the mud.
the striker will just slide IMO.

WHat is your opinions on the knobby style? Do they hold up? Good in snow or mud? If I went this way I can have all 3 tires match which for me is a big deal for some odd reason. They do give that classic atc look.

Knobbies are good steering tires, for the front, coupled with the Strykers, you should be fine. I have had a few knobbies that style before,and they're good tires.

I disagree... I would say all 3 strykers. I have been running mudlites on all 3 points of my BR for a few years now, and the front steers way better in the mud, trails, and ruts than it ever did with a knobby!
