    Troubleshooting help YTM-225DX

    Hello I recently acquired a ytm-225dx. I am having an issue where the transmission goes into 5th gear first. So basically N-5-4-3-2-1. Thus when I engage it the thing takes off like a bat out of hell and almost flips over each time. Can someone help shed some light on this issue? Thank you for your time,

    I don't think it's going into 5th. I think your one of your clutches is messed up. The first step would be to see if it's properly adjusted and then report back.

    EDIT- Sorry, I was thinking YTM 200. Yours has a manual clutch, right?

    225 has an auto clutch, it should be N-1-2-3-4-5, if you are talking about you go into first out of nuetral and then start out, it revs up like the clutch is slipping then kicks in and goes? if so i had to replace my cyntrifical clutch and that fixed that problem.

    how heavy on the throttle are you when you go into first, cause like Lil Earl says it goes from all the way down N-1-2-3-4-5 going up and if it does have to wind up in first before moving is definitely a clutch problem try adjusting according to the manual here http://www.oscarmayer.net/atc/manual...225-fm200l.pdf and if that doesn't work then you'll need to open the case and check to see which clutch is bad, there are two of them.

    I just went through something like this too. As others have said, I don't think your gears are backwards. My centrifugal clutch was bad, and muthey helped me get that sorted out. I thought it was the main clutch, and it was adjusted way out of whack because me AND the guy who owned it before me didn't understand that there were two clutches.

    The primary clutch is a centrifugal clutch and is not adjustable in any way. The secondary clutch is the one that's released by the shift lever. A simple test to see if that one is working is to lift up the shift lever, putting it into first gear. While your foot is holding the lever up, it should be like you're in neutral. Then when you let off, it should grab and go into gear. However, if the primary (centrifugal) clutch is bad, the engine will rev way up before it grabs. Then when it does, the thing takes off like a rocket, and you end up almost flipping the machine.

    My bet is that the centrifugal clutch is what's bad. Download the manual and you can look in chapter 5, which explains all of this. After I replaced mine, it behaves completely normal. One quick note: the measurement the manul gives for the thickness of a good clutch is either wrong or there are none out there that are anywhere close. There's a guy on Ebay that has one for sale, last time I checked.
