83 250r axle issue?

the other day i pulled the axle out of my 250r to replace the axle bearings. i ordered the replacement bearings for it(6007) but they dont fit the axle, nore do the ones that were it it. the bearings measure 35mm inside and my axle measures 34.5mm. the axle doesnt show any signs of wear or grooving anywhere. ive tried researching elsewhere and came up with nothing, hopeing you guys could help me out. im fairly certain the axle is the correct one because it still has some gold anadizing left on it, any ideas or advice?

Isn't that correct? The bearings press into the swing arm like the 85200x if I recall? Then you slide the axle into the bearings and tighten the axle nut. You need some clearance to get the axle in the bearings.

the clearance should only be a few thousandths tho right? this thing has .020 difference.

That should be about right. 0.020 will leave you with 0.010 on each side of the shaft, the inner races will be "locked" to the shaft by the axle nuts. The inner tube that goes between the bearings allows you to put pressure on the inner bearing races when you set the preload by tightening the axle nut. What I'm getting at is by using the axle nut, and inner tube system you take away the ability for the axle to turn inside the inner bearing race. I think you will be fine, I would not hesitate to use it.

forgive my ignorance, but shouldnt it be a tight fit for it to be correct?

You can't have a "Tight" fit. there needs to be clearance to allow the axle to slide through the bearings. Go find a caliper and look what 0.020" really is, then look at what 0.010" is. Nothing to be worried about. Assemble it like the manual says and ride it.

just got in from the shop and read last post. i already made a sleve and put it on the axle, turned it down to size and installed it in the machine. i know not tight like press fit, but a couple thousandths. i guess i made it fit snug, as i do when i build my race sleds with jack shafts and drivers. do u think i should remove the sleve or leave it as is? i thought the manual said you may need a deadblow to remove the axle?
