someone correct me if im wrong, but i believe the axle will fit into the carrier (same size bearing as the 200x andRs)but you will have issues with sprocket alignment because the 81-82 axles are more narrow compared to the 83-84's. In addition, the 81/82 rear brake setups are totally different (drums i think) which will pose a few problems. Maybe someone has actually done this???

81 had first year with drums 82 they came out it there rotor. i have two axles im trying to sell and someone ask if the 82 axle will fit his 84. im not sure i have an 84 they kinda look the same i just wanted to be surei sold it to him. thanks for the info.

id say no it wouldnt fit i could be wrong but the 82 r axles will only swap with the 83-85 200x.. the width is way different on the 84r

Rollingmenace is right...82 R's axle can be swapped with the 200x (will be more narrow but...)
