atc70 1st gear slipping

Hi every one im new here but have been looking at the site for a while.
Me and Dad have always had atleast 1 trike and the other week we got another k1 atc70, it goes good, starts 1st time every time and has never been in salt water because it was a farm bike the guy reckens. when we got it home we put it in first gear when it was cold and it clunked badly but then you put it in second and take it for a ride and warm it up 1st gear it works fine. what do you people think it could be? ill post pics of it soon.

Try starting cold in 2nd gear and let us know.
Does it seem like it's only slipping in first and only when cold?
I've seen them get sticky when they get hot, for sure.

Also, we never know who put what kind of oil or additives in these things over the years.
You may want to dump the old oil out and try the 'right' stuff. whatever that is.

when we start it we go for a ride in second because 1st dose nothing but clunk. then when it warms up after about 15 minutes you can put it in 1st and it has no problems.
we dumped the oil before we rode it and no chunks of metal came out and then we put honda oil in.

and all the other gears act normally when cold?

I should try to find one to use instead of a spare tire
or as a superfunctional hood ornament.
That thing is in beautiful shape.

yea all the others are normal cold, its tricked me. il split the box soon and give the whole motor a rebuild.
It would make a good hood ornament, my alt50 is about half the size it would be perfect to put in the back of your car and get it out when you find a spot to ride.

I just revived up an old points fired 90. Just amazing in the sand.
Hey, there were a few folks down your way that posted a video a few weeks ago.
They had some sort of tiny trikes doing slides in a tiny backyard.
And then some more video at the dunes.

I'm not too sure I tear into that thing for a monster total rebuild necessarily.
MAYbe some clutch parts if necessary (hope we get to figure that problem out soon)
and maybe a set of standard rings and simple hone of the cylinder.

Unless, of course, you think it really needs a total overhaul.

One of my favorite comments about hondas,
"do a little of this and a little of that and they'll run forever AGAIN"

that always makes me laugh.

Surely some northerners will be walking up soon looking for a little trike challenge with their coffee.

na no more news.
dad had the alt scince new and we once had a 70 engine in it, but was to crazy. you can just throw it in the back of the car and close it without it hanging out, its pritty funny realy.
wont be ripping it all apart just needs rings, berings, timing chain and check out the box and clutch.

what year 70s are you looking at?
