Tri moto 175 Blaster engine swap

Anyone ever swap a blaster motor into a tri moto? They seem like they would be a very similar engine both chain drive, air cooled, the blaster is 6speed kick start as the tri moto is auto clutch pull start. Are the cylinders interchangeable? How cool what it be to have a 6 speed manual clutch tri moto!

I have no clue about putting a Blaster motor in a Tri-moto, but I do know that the engines are from two different families. The Blaster is an air cooled Yamaha WR200, which replaced the IT200 in the late 80s. They share almost nothing with the earlier series. However, you could swap the clutch side cover and top end off a WR200 onto a Blaster and have a water cooled Blaster!

It's apparently common, according the parts counter guy at the local Yamaha dealer. I came across it first last year when I was searching LT250R stuff through this guy.
Reading back, it's more complex than just bolting up a new top end, but it's also electrically operated powervalved!
Building a YTZ200PV is something I've considered over a few beers with my Yamaha loving buddy occasionally, but he's got his heart set on building a 200 4 stroke Yamaha sport trike to "beat down" my planned ALT200S. He might have a hard time, I'm currently building his 190cc XT 125 motor to compete with my DR190 and the TTR225 head will have issues flowing half as well as my stock DR200 head, even ported.

you should start by posting your own thread asking for help so people will see it better. Prolly not going to get much help on a thread about Yamaha's

With some port work and a pipe+carb, the YTs fly... I have several threads of moding these at home, some videos. Did my own porting, made my own pipe, stuffed in bigger reeds... Added a larger carb - still a few things to do

Blaster motor are very close on the mounts. Now remember,a blaster SWING ARM bolts to the ENGINE.. you see where im going with this.. right? If you swap engines, you should add the swinger+axel. <--- Ill be doing this when my engine dies in 27 years.
For the YT + cylinder; Blaster cylinder bolts line up. Transfers do not. Blaster is a 7mm longer stroke. With a reed spacer and time, you can fit blaster reeds into the YT cylinder.

Now my YT will stomp most any blaster out there. It takes a crap ton of mods on a blaster to keep up with me in the drags

YTs are a blast to mod. I'm looking forward to the day when I get around to making the YZ Moto a manual clutched beast.

Is that a question or a statement? Hey 6stroke, I've got a clutch assy from an IT175 & as soon as I can afford it, am going to be ordering the rest of the parts(yes, still available) to make my ProTec YT a full manual. Stay tuned.

Is what you're planning just a matter of switching some of the guts under the right side cover, or is case-splitting involved?

That involves just switching the guts. Wish i had me a clutch setup. You can give theses YTs a stall though. If you take your clutches apart, youll find some metal balls. Depending on the year, the 82s had 8 and the 83s had 10. All 125s have 16. If you remove 2-4 of them youll increase when the stall. Just make sure that they are balanced when you reassemble the clutch!

I run 6 balls in my 83, it starts rolling at maybe 3000RPM. Gives it a feel of more bottom end. Before i go to the dunes in September, I'm going to remove all but 4.
This should get it rolling right about when i start getting on my pipe. I know i could use my auto clutch to accomplish this.. but this is so much easier lol
