    YTM 225 on 27s

I've been searching and can't seem to find any pictures of YTMs or threads discussing lifting a YTM. I have a set of Essex 27x11-12 Surefoots on ITP wheels I plan to put on my 86 YTM 225. I took some rough measurements today and put the 225 on jack stands to get a feel for how much lift I will need. From what I see, doesn't look like I will need to alter the suspension. I have rear spacers installed and they seem to give just enough room for the wheels to fit without touching the plastic.

I think I only need some adapters to change from the 3 lug to 4 lug pattern. As luck would have it, I met a guy last week that has an old ATC 70 that needs work. He just so happens to own a machine shop and I worked a deal to barter having him make some adapters for me fixing his 70. I got the 70 running with 2 hours of work and a carb kit, so I really made out.

Please post some pics or advice if any of you have lifted or seen a YTM with 27s.

Will do. I hope to have my adapters fabbed up within a few days, and I'll take a few pics and post then.

the only issue I see is when you bottom out the rear suspension they will tear up your fender. I have a set of four bolt hubs for a ytm 200 that will be a direct bolt on to your axle if you are interested, not sure if they will fit the rims you have but will be more stable than adding an 3 to 4 adapter plate.

Sounds like a winner! I think the wheels I have are 4/137-12mm. I'll take a measurement tomorrow. Any idea what pattern your adapters are?

Update! Just sent my wheels off to the machine shop for adapters to be made. Can't wait!!

I also sent the newly purchased axle I bought from ebay to be straightened. Hope to get good news back on the axle tomorrow, as well.

I hope you got that axle for dirt cheap, the axle I am selling to fellow member only needs the threads rerolled on one end and I'm selling it for 100$, and that only happened in removal wasn't the original grade 8 nut on there and it decided to mushroom itself out, however is about a 15 minute fix, and that's all that's wrong with it. Also anyone who's interested I have ytm 200k axle for sale as well with no problems at all.

I have seen a few builds where people have put oversize tires on and I always concern for the extra wear and tear on the centrifugal clutches due to the extra torque needed to turn those big azz tires!!

Especially on the Yamahas..their clutch packs just don't seem quite as durable as the Hondas.

i've thought of doing this several times with my 86 225 drs. i want to make a plate to adapt a tri z front wheel to my existing front hub. that will allow you to run a 12 in front tire. as for the rear my plan has been to try a hub change to something like any yamaha utility quad rear hub and a set of 12 in rear wheels. my intentions are to run 25's witch i think i smore than large enough and still have fender clearance.
