Flawless victory for the SX! What a difference bringing the right machine makes.

I had an absolute blast guys. I could have kept going if you all had wanted to. Great machine, great people, great scenery, flawless day! We'll line up another one soon.

If you're reading this Steve, you may want to break out that SX and get some 'ol balloons on 'er! You want to talk about the perfect machine for that mess, the SX is it! You haven't used it in forever anyways, and you can keep your RX in one piece! I swear there were times I could have passed these guys if I had the room, no kidding!

That same SOB broke off in mine maybe, a month ago. I had to drill it perfect and chase the threads. Then I used a slightly longer OEM bolt and put a little waterproof grease on it....

Hard to tell in the pic how deep its broke off, if it aint too deep, try weldin a nut onto it, give it a min or 2 and try turnin it wigglin back and forth while squirtin monkey piss on it. Ive always had good luck with this method. But if the nut snaps off a cpl times, you may have to do as dc said. Hope it isnt too much of a peckerhead.
Atleast it didnt fail in the trail and eat your leg up like a piece of jerky.

    Slightly off topic

    Rory,

I went through that on my SX a couple months ago. I was able to extract both bolts but I was lucky. Mine were well below flush as is yours and were entombed by welded on bolts over that just for fun by the PO.
It took a lot of tedious precise grinding with a dremel just to locate the thread wall so I could indicate center, but long story short
what I did was center punch as best as I could judge what was dead on balls center and use progressively larger drill sizes slathered with plenty of heavy weight oil at each step. Once it was 3 or 4 drill sizes opened up, with a decent wall thickness still, I drove a triple square bit in as deep as it would go and just before I got to the yield of the bit, she cracked free then squealed the whole way out. I don't think I put any heat to them just
having to wail the triple squares in had a lot to do with success.

This is a sucky repair to have to do and is difficult at best to do right even moreso in the 350x's case than the SX because you have no easy access to the backside of this bolt.
So, may you be severed as I once was by these simple tenents of the Zen art of bolt extraction, using hand tools of course:

    1. Always use a center punch and then use a bigger center punch, no exceptions
    2. pray ONLY at the altar of the almightly PB'laster - good I see I'm preaching to the choir
    3. Use a NEW drill bit in all the sizes you'll need, or bits that were newly sharpened professionally. Any compromise here NEVER pays. -"If you're not pulling a chip, it's turning to SH*T"
    4. Drill at low low low speed, put a little arse into it, use oil but be mindful that a broken drill bit is provocation for getting the frame as light as possible for a ride on DC's mill for a bail-out
    5. Never use an easy out- those are BS in all of their various incarnations. The square ones are better, but still BS and have their place but it ain't here. Also beware of spline shaped extractors, those are good, but they
have less bite and less robust drive options than triple squares
    6. A triple square, aka an XZN bit is basically a 12-point ellen bit with a 3/8" or 1/2" drive end and are your best friends. They are used on lots of German cars and are better at one time bolt extraction than for what they were originally intended for.
    7. Remain humble, delay jubilation and do not be fooled by progress until the offending bolt is free & clear
    8. If you can't see at any point in this journey, you don't need more light- you need compressed air. Seeing the light is for the end
    9. This is the most important thing to know- what ever method you use, once you've committed to it you greatly reduce the chance of success sometimes eliminate it entirely if you fail and need to change your
approach, so choose wisely my son.

Go fourth, and may the torque be with you!

I can definitely make the 12th for the next ride if that's the day it ends up being.
