Hi my name is Dink (yes it really is part of my name, pretty cool huh?) and I just joined this forum, because I scored a 1982 Honda ATC 250R on craigslist 2 days ago and want to learn more about it, like tips and tricks and just all the cool gee whiz stuff as well as some normal things. Like, I want to do exhaust but need a direction to go in, I'm not racing just riding in a rocky sandy desert (no dunes where I am ) and not really doing anything crazy just fun for me, what's a good setup for a budget minded person? What's the best bang for the buck mods for this model ATC? what's the difference in performance/handling with the flat squared off "quad" style tires vs the big squishy baloon tires I have now? Just pros and cons of either one would be helpful. And just other general newbie type stuff would be helpful as well, thank you for any help you can offer!

Welcome Dink. Your best bet is to search this forum for tips and tricks for the 250r. The best hop up out there is the Mugen ME360 motor, but that is way pricey and very hard to find. Plus, there is machining involved. The next best is the Hondaline 300cc top end kit. They are quite a bit cheaper and easier to find. Pipes are up to your preference. I prefer a tire that is smaller than the balloons, but larger than the race type that you mentioned. I know several guys that run Holeshots and they like them. Again, it is your preference.
