I run a K&N filter right of the back of my carb. It runs tits! I've run it like that all summer, but would like to convert back to airbox, just for the forced air and the filter bien sealed off up to the stem neck on the frame for better mud & water purpose's.

The extended airbox hose is virtually non existent (Tri-Z is another story)
The only debate I read on pod filters is that since they are open they don't breathe as good due to the fact that the air rushing by/through the frame creates a parasitic air loss (think of trying to breathe with your head hangin out a moving car window. The debate states that having an enclosed airbox creates a space where there is no turbulence thus air is retrieved easier.
I dont buy this though, what about the snowmobiles and boats that dont even run filters, just an open air bell. I prefer pod filters simply due to the ease of removal if you are always tinkering with your carb. Plus I thought it would be cool to cap the stock 250R airbox to use for tool storage or a lunch box, kinda like those possum boxes they make for Banshees.
I've ridden both airboxed and clamp on pods for 250's and they are fast either way.
But I do highly recommend ditching the Tri-Z's box in favor of a pod. I swear I got about 4 extra ponies.
