Bought my first sport quard. 1987 TRX 250X

Not bad for $400. Fires on the first kick. Runs great. Been ridden hard and put away wet more than a few times. It needs some TLC. Any good upgrades that have worked out well for you. Any long time owners of the early gen trx250x got any good advise for a newbie to the sport quads.

Doesn't look that bad really, especially for the price you paid!

I borrowed a friends 92 250x it was the blue, white one and it ran great and was fun to ride but every hill i came across the front end would lift up with out warning. I was standing up with my weight on the bars and it would still come up. Not trying to scare ya but be careful going up hills. Other than that we beat the hell out of it and it always took you home without breaking down. In my opinion it's a real good quad just a little to slow for me.

Great little quads. A lot of 300ex parts will swap over if you want newer parts

    Dude... GREAT buy there!
That little X will still be running long after a 2011 450 needs work. Nice score. Congrats to ya!

We had a 87 for about 10 years. It was a very dependable quad.
The 87-88 had lighter/weaker trans gears in them, so if you shift without the clutch, they fail. They were updated in 91-92 with beefier trannies.
The best mod you can do is a pipe. It really wakes them up. 400ex a arms bolt right on with a little fab work to a set of Banshee front shocks and widen the fronts out about 3 inches and make them ride better..
They are light in the front end. They actually handle very nimble, much like a trike.
Here is where my long useless list of stuff nobody cares about should go...
