Yamaha 225DX Starter just spins ?

Hi Guys, my question is when i hit the starter button it just spins free? I took the pull start cover off and you can watch the big gear( sorry i don't know the right name of any of these parts) turn, it goes counter clockwise, is this right?? If you use the pull starter it works fine. is something sheared off ? any help would be appreciated-- Thanks

How does the clutch come off? Do you need a puller?

    duude!
Dad's in Lk George 5 min from rodgers rock with a yama 225
    that needs tires.

He's also got tons of places to ride right from his property.

If there's anything you can do to help him out,
    I'd be eternally grateful.
....like simply where to get tires and have them changed.

I used to get parts at adirondac power products in Glens Falls but that was
    in the 70's.

That's crazy!! LG is about 30 min. from me, i have heard of rodgers rock but have not been there before. I have one rear tire on a rim but it came on a parts machine and it has a four hole lug pattern?? My 225 has 3 lugs, but if he wants the tire i think it's in good shape.
Does he have any extra parts? I need a good shifter.

His is a 225, he thinks and it is all good except he has 3 deadrotted tires.
He may even have a parts trike.
Is your shifter loose? like it wants to ruin the splines?
If you're lucky you can kinda hacksaw (or similar) the space that the pinch bolt squeezes to give it better bite.

Yupp, he brags that they can ride right from his house...about 100 yards to 'forever wild' or logging roads
    and go for miles.

....AND that you can see if a dime is heads of tails in 30 feet of water at rodgers rock..

Gotta try to keep this thread about repairs or we'll get moved.
He also doesn't need an excuse to take to boat out.

If those are like to old honda rims, there is no lip and are tapered
all the way and impossible to remove replace without cutting them off so I'd say either new rims with tires
or some unsuspecting tire shop to do the job.

I guess I should ask if they are 3 or 4 lug rims?
anything else I should ask him?
