Never had that happen, sold my 70 about a year ago to upsize, but melting things was never a problem. I'd give a once over to your wiring. It was probably just the coil being so bad it heated and melted from resistance, but you never know. Unfortunately I just tossed my spare coil for my 70 about a month ago since I dont have the trike anymore, or you coulda had it cheap. They're all over ebay for pretty cheap.

It had been running kinda funny, seemed like it was "loading up" in the middle range, (I assumed it was needle on the carb needing a bit of adjusting) but it had "fouled" a few plugs, that came out dry and black... Guessing it was an electrical issue now!
