I just purchased an 84 200es the machine runs good but hiccups or coughs at idle. Has a cobra muffler on it and a UNI filter all jetting appears to be stock (per manual). Any ideas on how to get this thing to run a little smoother?

What does the spark plugg say? Tan or black? and is it gapped right? 0.20-0.28 .. That would be my guess, you may need to run a hotter plugg, i recently installed a cobra on my trx200, the plugg was tan with stock exhaust but since the cobra on its black... made it run richer for some reason...

You don't run a hotter plug to cure running lean...... You need to rejet your carb..... Everytime a motor breaths better, it will run lean unless you up your mainjet.... I don't understand how your cobra made you run rich... Unless a cobra restricts more airflow than stock..l

I dont understand either,,went from tan to black..put hotter plugg in and cured it.
I would check your plugg to see what it says anyways... Tan is good, black is rich..
