200X Gas Tank and Plastics onto a 250SX Frame

    I have a 1985 Honda 200X.
Just put in a new Piston/Rings/Gasket set.
Fired it up and it ran GREAT! No smoke, and lots of power.

Well I took it on a trail ride and broke it.

I was going as fast as it would go (50-55mph 'ish) and I blew my piston rod.
It smashed into my cylinder sleeve and broke that as well.
So now I have major internal damage to my 200X motor.
Upper rebuild kit is $160 and a lower end is $200-250.
Not very cost effective to fix it. I should almost just buy a new motor and use the old one for parts.

A friend of mine has a 250SX with no gas tank and no plastics.
He is willing to sell it to me (not sure of price yet).

I was wondering if my gas tank and plastics would fit onto a 250SX frame.
Or if I could put the 250SX motor into my 200X frame.

Any ideas or thoughts on this?

Gas tank and plastic could maybe be rigged up to work but it's not a direct fit. Motors will not come close to swapping as the 200x is chain drive and 250sx is shaft drive

Ah yes thanks Rob. The 200X is most definitely a chain drive.

My latest favorite 250 sx has no plastics OR gas tank.

I have cardboard across the frame and some foam rubber for a seat.
and a 1 quart lawnmower tank for fuel will work.

Get that one and fix it up.

As far as the 'x', 185 or 200 auto engines will fit.
called "auto x" if you use the search key.
185 and 200 auto engines are almost everywhere cheap.

My vote is get them both running and get some more.

Any idea 'why' the x engine came apart?

I've heard of 2 stroke engine giving up the ghost with almost no warning,
but I guess they all can.

If it's a fresh rebuild it's NEVER a good idea to dog one. That's why it's called a break in period. Break in, or break it.
This is my trike. There are many like it but this one is mine. My trike is my best friend, and it is my life. I must master it as I must master myself. My trike without me is useless. Without my trike, I am useless. I must ride my trike true. My trike and I know that what counts is not the amount of miles we ride, but the time we ride together. My trike is human in it's own ways, therefore I will learn it as my brother. I will learn it's weaknesses, it's strengths, it's parts, and it's soul.

Truth has never been more told.

I do believe I was past the break in period tho.
I have at least 2 dozen 20 minute rides on it.
Just nothing super long and wide open like during my trail ride.

You should of just putted around the trails for a while. This was definitely caused by too short of a break in period.
