i don't own a big red, but i have been researching stuff for my buddy on it. yeah you can lift it the same as a big red, basicly they're the same things. just ones sporty and other is utility. somewhere there's a thread where someone even did a "body lift" by stacking and welding the top section of one frame to another. lifted the tank, seat and fenders.

Be careful about your choice to lift the rear of the SX..the shaft drive system relies on a u-joint equipped driveshaft between the transmission output and differential..

Too much lift will place an increase angle on the ujoint that will cause it to bear additional stress or even cause premature failure!!

I considered it on my 250ES after reading the thread that exists here on the site..but chose not to after considering the implications.

+1 yes the implications are so true, i seen a trx250 with 26-9-12's and the drive shaft angle was changed so much, oh i guess thats why it broke much faster then it would without the ''lift'' .
Carefull on how much you raise your machine, IMO if you want it to by taller, get a set of bigger tires that wont change the downwards angle on the drive shaft.

yeah i was wondering about that, i had to fab out my 76 blazers rearend after i put the 12 inches of lift i changed the angle of my drive shaft. im only thinking about adding +3 inches under the rear mono. u think thats to much? it didnt seem to affect the other fellas big red and he was going through some deep and muddy s***?

Many of the other members have discussed replacement of the front forks on the Big Red and the 250SX. 250R and 350X front ends have been substituted to accomplish the extension you want. I'm not sure it totals to 4" though..I thinks it's around 3"

As far as 4" rear lift..that would be insane. You would trash the ujoints for sure at that angle. The fabbed bracket I saw only extended the shock mount by 1 or 1.5 inches..I wouldn't even consider more than that!

Big tires doesn't increase driveshaft angle!! Unless it was lifted and bigger tires??? Is this what you mean?

That is a different lift, but same principle..

I liked the idea, but was afraid of the damage it may do..

Kegan, hit me up when you need brackets/welding, I have access to steel and a water jet. O ya I can gusset the frame too.
