Carb is spewing fuel (1983 200E) any ideas?

I had this problem a few days ago and it went away when I realized the lever on gas cap was set to on. But it has returned even with the lever set on off or on. There is fuel coming from the small black hose exiting the bottom of the carb, and if I raise or block that hose, fuel will pour from the hose coming from the upper hose on the carb or through the air filter. Are these hoses supposed to be hanging freely without a connection to something? I allowed someone to test drive it and thats when these problems began... did he sabotage my trike, or is something f'd on or before the carb?

Take it apart, and clean it. Problem solved 98 % of the time.

Your float is stuck wide open, the float regulates the amout of fuel that is able to enter the float bowl. When it is stuck in the open position fuel will flud the carb and exit out the over flow tubes (black tubes). And no the black fuel lines that are hanging off the carb are not to be connected to anything, they are there to devert fuel in case the trike is tipped and the carb overflows.

you need to clean your carb like the above post states, if you take it apart and it is really bad invest in a carb rebuild kit they are around 20.00 well worth the money. hope this helps!

99% of the time, you wont need a rebuild kit. Just clean her up.

The problem he is having has nothihng to do with the pilot jet.

The float in the float bowl is stuck in the open position and fluding the carb. after taking apart the carb i would remove the float pin which will release the float itself, then remove the float neadle to make sure it is clean and seats properly into the float bowl, then remove the main jet, main jet holder and pilot jet to ensure they are not gummed up ( make sure you can see through them). If the jets are clean there is no reason to replace them. its a good idea to soak the carb in a solivent tank but if you dont have one clean as best you can using carb cleaner and an air compresor. check the orings on the float bowl and intake side of the carb to make sure they are not cracked or worn. This should fix your problem, I would recomend installing an inline fuel filter to keep debre out of the carb.
