Yamaha YT 125 why should i buy it?

I know for a sweet running yt 125 for sale locally, it looks a bit scruffy but its got 3 new tyres and runs perfectly and has got its front and back lights. i think it's an 85' model.

i think i need some convincing that i need to buy it???

    give me some good reasons?
If it ain't sideways......what's the point!!

You can bolt on a yt175 front end. You can bolt on a yt175 top end. You can make it a manual shift, bolt on. You can mod a ytm200 front end with a yt275 steering stem and have even better front end than yt175. You can get a Pro Tec kit for it and have rear suspension. You can get a DG head. I can sell you nos rear fenders and seat if need be! LOL They are crazy wheelie machines and just plain fun, but can be a pain as well. You know you want it! LOL

snow for next month nice!! i have to wait for another 2 or 3 months... mine put it in 3rd gear and i was goin threw almost 2 feet of snow with half thread tires... also if you like to drift on the ice/snow they are amazing for that. our drive way turns into a ice skating rink and it has 3 corners and you can fully drift from the 1st corner all the way threw the 3rd corner they sit nice and low so they are not so tipsy but still have the right amount of clearence

EDIT:I think the way to tell for the year is on right side of the steering stem up front. sorry i cant decoded them either lol someone on here can im sure though or call a yamaha dealer close to you

Back in the early '90s when we were kids, my little brother had one. Everyone is right, they are tough little cookies. Not very powerful, but with that engine sitting as far back as it does, they are pretty easy to wheelie around in 2nd gear with. They are extremely light and a breeze to toss around. But they had a quite narrow wheel stance and were a bit tippy with the stock balloons on it. Id grab one if I came across one that was descent and for the right price.
    Trikes:
    '85 ATC 350R
    '85 ATC 250R
    '86 ATC 350X
    '85 ATC 350X
    '84 ATC 200ES Big Red
    '84 ATC 125M
    '85 ATC 110
    '85 ATC 70/110

i have a uni with no airbox on my 250r and snow doesnt seem to affect it much... i would be more worried about submerging it in water. and seats are not that hard to find for them either.

EDIT: ok about what i said about the seats im not sure in the U.K. but i know here in minnesota they are plentiful and ride red is right with the stock tires they are very tipsy... i had on mine and they were decent

The main thing you want to know if it's 82 or later. The easy way to tell that is by looking at the rear bearing carrier. If the rear bearing carrier is held onto the frame by 3 bolts, then I would say stay away from it. If the rear bearing carrier is held on by 2 bolts and is adjustable by pivoting, then it's 82 and later and it's the more desirable model. The big difference in the 82 and later models is the carb. I can't remember if it's 83 or 84, but the carb is bigger. The fenders are pretty much interchangable for all years, even the
yt175 which is pretty much the exact same engine cases. Main difference on the 175s is the top end and the clutch. The 175 clutch is heavier duty and there is even differences between the 82 and 83 yt175 clutch. The 83 yt175 has an extra special blank plate which makes the clutch grab better and hold better under load. 82 and 83 yt175 cylinders are different, the 82 has the oil injection into the carb intake base and the 83 has the oil injection port on the cylinder itself. But, if you run your premix in your gas, it doesn't matter if you mix and match 175 cylinders and parts, just make sure the oil injection port is closed off so no air leak. The 125 has alot of fun potential for hopping up if you want to take the time to hop it up.

ya i would go with the newer model like vealmonkey said. they earlier ones had the sprocket to tighten the chain kinda like on a 79 80 honda 110. also the gearing i dont like for mudding/snow riding its like when you are getting stuck you want to shift down from 2nd to 1st but like on my 1980 i always forget its 2nd neutral 1st ... i got stuck because of that many times...
