    200x jetting? I think?

Ok i just rebuild the top end on my 84 200x but its not running well. The only mod are a dg pipe and a uni filter with no lid. Its will start when its cold and idle but when it warms up it wont idle at all plus it wont restart without the choke on. Seams to lacking on power in the bottom end wants to bog if wder a load. The only other thing is that it sort of breaks up on the top end not bad but its still there. Carb is clean and it has a 110 main and the stock pilot with the air screw 2 1/2 turns out.

What does the spark plug look like? It maybe timing, the reason I say that is because of the bike not wanting to start when warm.

yea check the plug. and put the lid back on to see if that changes anything, that will richin it up a bit. set your timing with a light. my guess is its lean, new/clean performance filter with no lid ... yea its lean.

I didnt check the plug i was tired of kicking it over and gave up for the night. As for when i check it do i just run it wide open and then kill it?

check the valves if they are tight it could cause hard starting when warm and poor performance as it heats up

110 is to small for what you have got set up. Go to like a 125-128, but it also sounds like timing ,or your valves are set to tight.

125-128 really that big? ok i will check the timing and the valves again tonight. i really like this trike but it has been nothing but a pain. bought it knowing it needed a top end and now that its sort of running the kick starter wont return and it dont like to shift into first. owell it is 27 years old and after i get it running better i can look at fixing the rest. i will check it out tonight and let you know what i find.

When you kick it make sure the kicker is engaged before you kick it hard. it is easy to just kick and kick on something that won't start but take it easy or you will have more of a mess than you bargined for. check your valves before you kick it again. 110 I belive is stock jet, with a pipe alone you need to go up, filter alone takes a rejet and no air box or no lid you need to go up jet size. So yea you need to go up in size alot. Plus it is getting cooler out, all adds up.

ok i will see if i can pick up a few jets on the way home and check the valves first. do you think that it will need a bigger pilot jet too?

I wouldn't worry about your main jet size at the moment. You have a different problem that makes your bike not want to start when hot, or stay running, address one problem at a time, get it running right, then play with the main jet.

Went to check the valves and the piston had to be passed tdc to do it. So the timing is off. Think i need to adv it a tooth.

that does not make sense. you can check your valves any where towards the top of the compression stroke or at the beginning of the power stroke, your valves will be closed for sure then. but most people do it at TDC on comp. is your pulsar and coil lined up when the crank is at the F mark? If your backing plate is somewhere in the middle of its adjustment range when the crank is on the F mark and the pulsar and coil are lined up, then your not a tooth off. When you are a tooth off you have to rotate your backing plate to the stops to get it timed. I used a timing light, then I scribed a new line on my coil, just to the left of the factory line. thats where my 83 X likes it for base timing. I would go 115 or 118 on the jet, 800 FT Elev in IL I am guessing.
