250 big red helmet lock

my friend has a 250 big red and there is a helmet lock on the frame close to the triple clamps is that rare ?

That is a steering lock.

Thats a steering Lock. Turn wheels, use key, lock. Boom. Steering locked. All 86 / 87 BR and sx ( maybe more? ) have them .

Yea that is a stearing lock not a helmet lock.

No, its a helmet holder. I have 2 big reds and the each have a helmet holder (86 and 87). There is even a decal sticker that says "helmet holder" right next to them. You use the ignition key to turn lock and un-lock it so nobody jacks your helmet if you leave it locked to the trike when you're not around.

Hm...... i'm around an 86 250sx daily, and all that does is lock the steering. Interesting.............. ?

I'll try and take a picture of it this weekend if I remember. I just picked up a 87 250SX on wednesday (first SX i've ever owned) and I did not notice a helmet holder on it, so maybe its just a 250es thing?

I have an '86 250es, and it has the helmet lock (with a sticker stating so), but none of the '85's have it.

Turn your bars, all the way either way, use the lock. It locks your steering. It has a helmet holder sticker on the triple, but who would really use that as a helmet holder :S
