    The weekend's Big Red haul

Got a disassembled 83 that was in decent condition prior to being torn apart for a restoration that never happened, a well weathered 1985 in one piece that looks like it would take me 20 min to get running and a well weathered 87 that also is in one piece and shows no damage, I also think a quick carb and fuel system cleaning for this one will do the trick. Of course the fuel tanks and tires are crap and they sat outdoors forever...but hey it was a whole load of big red goodness and it was cheap

The 87- i will probably fix this one up first

the 85 and parts of the 83. I guess I will reassemble the 83 this morning just so I can roll it around

I'd get that 87 and 85 going...just part out the '83. Hell, its already halfway there and it would bring in some cash for the other 2.

Well I have been riding the 87 for a while , after bringing it out of mothballs and doing all the usual stuff: de-rusting and coating the tank, redoing the fuel system, cleaning electrical connections, changing oil and filter, etc. It runs like new.

Just today I finally dragged the 85 over into the work station....put it on the operating table, if you will. an hour later it is also purring like a kitten. You cannot kill these 250 big reds. A friend of mine has one with so many hours on it, the teeth on the original footpegs are worn off-completely!! not ground off, worn off from use. It starts and runs perfectly with no odd sounds and no oil consumption. The rest of it looks beat and is beat but it runs like new. amazing

About two years ago I spotted an 86-7 on a farm while I was driving down the road in mint, mint shape.(down to every decal-OEM tires ) I pulled into the driveway and saw an 85 125m sitting outside a garage(also perfect). I located the owner, he was an old man probably in his eightys. I asked if he would be willing to part with both or either of them. He said the 125m throws out of gear and blah blah blah no I'm not wanting to sell them. I said I have cash? Nope no deal. Every time I have driven by there since I see that poor Big Red outside in the rain (or the blazing sun) and it breaks my heart. The 125m is in the exact same spot also with weeds growing around it. I just dont understand what is wrong with people. I'm sure a lot of us have a similar story. Good job on the Big Red Rescue! Glad you brought them back to life!

    man that sucks
it is clear to me that this 87 model that I have got had very very minimal ride time on it. I took the rear brakes apart to lube the sticky brake arm and the brake drum could have just come out of its original box. no wear. new. yet it was allowed to sit outdoors for who knows how long. years I suspect. This machine would be one of those showroom virgins I drool over on ebay if the previous owner numbnuts had stored it properly. The 85 is no spring chicken like the 87 but still runs and rides fine, I have been out riding it and it works so well I ordered a battery, carb kit (just for the float needle) and air filter. most everything else is fine.
